Jarrod Saltalamacchia signed a minor-league contract with the Blue Jays this offseason and instantly became the player with the longest last name in Blue Jays history.

With 14 letters in his last name, the catcher holds this same record on six different teams, having played for the Atlanta Braves, Texas Rangers, Boston Red Sox, Miami Marlins, Arizona Diamondbacks and Detroit Tigers.

On each of these teams, his name is always squished or bent to fit onto the back of the jersey, but with the style of the Blue Jays jersey, it looks especially peculiar.

Melissa Couto with the Canadian Press is down at Spring Training and she got a first look at the horseshoe-like orientation used to display his surname.

Before this, the longest names in Blue Jays history topped out at 11 letters. Those names include Mark Rzepczynski (Whose name certainly feels the longest), Frank Catalanotto, Edwin Encarnacion, Adeiny Hechavarria and nine others.

You’ll also notice that he is wearing Edwin Encarnacion’s number as well.

He took Edwin’s last name record (shared) and his number, but it’s unlikely that anyone in the Blue Jays lineup will replace his production this season.

#EdwinEncarnacion opened up about how Toronto was his first choice, and how negotiations fell apart.
