Patrick Marleau was a member of the San Jose Sharks for 19 seasons, scoring a franchise best 1082 points over the span of 1493 games. Sunday, the Sharks sadly had to say goodbye to their franchise legend, as the Maple Leafs officially announced that they had signed Marleau to a three-year deal.

The Sharks, who have always been known for having a lively, humorous social team, posted a goodbye to Marleau in the form of a GIF, and it was just as spectacular as you would have hoped.

Nobody ever said that saying goodbye was easy, but the Sharks did a great job of hitting the nostalgia note, as well as sharing something that even the most bummed out San Jose fan could laugh at. While fans were saying goodbye to one beloved Sharks player the team announced the re-signing of another, finally making Joe Thornton's 1-year deal official. Thornton spoke with the media Sunday, expressing his thoughts on having to say goodbye to Marleau and calling his former teammate the best Shark of all-time.

What a way to spend your 38th birthday! That's right, Jumbo got to sign with the Sharks on his birthday, and we must say that $8 million is a rather sweet present.
