Before the madness of expansion draft season, some moves were made that maybe flew under the radar.

One of those moves was made by the Hurricanes back in April.

Carolina traded for 28-year-old Scott Darling and they signed him to an extension shortly after acquiring him.

Darling figures to be a big part of the Hurricanes' future, but he ran into a problem Monday after the team signed Derek Ryan to a one-year deal.

The problem Darling needed to solve was getting the number 33 from Ryan and once Ryan announced he would be back with Carolina, Darling started negotiating.

On paper, Darling's offer seemed like a good one, but this wasn't Ryan's first rodeo.  He was in the position of power and wanted a little more.

Darling had no problem with the terms, but he couldn't do the number of dinners Ryan wanted.

Thankfully, Ryan accepted the great offer and in the end, everyone won.

Scott #Darling wanted Derek #Ryan's #33 and he had to negotiate to get it from him.

The deal was so noteworthy that the Hurricanes tweeted it out.

Now, there's only one question left to be answered:

(H/T: Scott Darling)
