Going into Thursday night’s game against the Boston Bruins, the Ottawa Senators knew they would clinch an NHL playoff berth with anything but a regulation loss. The magic number was one, meaning any single point earned, or a New York Islander and Tampa Bay Lightning loss would help them clinch.
The Senators took care of business themselves, and took down the Bruins in penalty shootout to clinch a playoff berth.
