The Ottawa Senators aren’t just a Cinderella story, they’re a series of fairy tales all wrapped up into one.

The team has battled adversity throughout the year and is constantly underestimated, yet here we are – Round 2 and they are one of two Canadian teams remaining. Whether it’s the story of Craig Anderson and his wife, Clarke MacArthur coming back from severe concussion issues or even just their overachieving season and playoff performance, the team just keeps surprising people.

Well, it was the team’s turn to be surprised as their fans showed up to greet them at the airport upon their return from a Game 6, series-clinching win over the Bruins.

Don’t think they didn’t notice either, as Head Coach Guy Boucher got out of his car to personally shake the fans’ hands.

All class from Guy Boucher, who probably hasn’t been getting as much Jack Adams consideration as he deserves.

It’s probably because Ottawa’s underlying numbers aren’t quite as strong as some of the other teams, but those are the teams that they keep moving past. From holding off the Leafs in the standings to advancing past the Boston Bruins, the new look Senators are more resilient than ever.

The playoff seeding has benefitted Ottawa as well, as rather than face one of the top teams in Round 2, they face off against the Wildcard Rangers. It’s definitely a better matchup than trying to take down the Penguins or Capitals.

It was also the second time in the night that the Senators had special handshake moments, as Karlsson and Chara shared a pretty special moment after Game 6.
