Players face all sorts of adversity during the playoffs.

They’re forced to play through injury, experience constant fatigue, and are seemingly always on the road. All of those are miniscule though, when you compare them to what Slovak forward Tomas Zigo went through en route to capturing the Slovak Extraliga cup.

On April 4th, the Branska Bystricia HC 05 forward unexpectedly lost his mother. Rather than sitting out, Zigo built up the courage to continue playing , and ultimately helped his team capture a championship.

Holding the trophy is Tomas' father and brother. Talk about emotion.

It’s moments like this that make us realize the importance of sports, and why we love them so much. Well done, Tomas!
