The Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs are a member of the Southern Professional Hockey League and haven’t exactly gotten off to the start they were hoping for.

Through the team’s first eight games, they own a 3-4-1 record and sit near the bottom of the standings, but they haven’t had an issue finding the back of the net.

This past weekend, the Rail Yard Dawgs managed to pick up their second straight victory with a 4-3 overtime win over the Knoxville Ice Bears and forward Riley Spraggs scored a goal that should be considered as the goal of the year.

As the 25-year-old Vernon, BC native picked up the puck and stepped into the opposing team’s zone, he attempted to make a move to break through right down the middle. Instead, the puck was flicked up into the air but was quickly knocked down and retrieved by Spraggs, who ended the play with a beautiful shorthanded goal and his fifth in eight games.

Everything about that goal was amazing.
