The Dallas Stars and the Vegas Golden Knights opened up their 2017-18 season on Friday night in Dallas, but both sides went into the game with heavy hearts.

Ahead of the game, both teams and everyone in attendance stood for a moment of silence in honour of the Las Vegas shooting victims, former Stars broadcaster Dave Strader, and former Stars employee Promise Hamilton.

Rather than line up on their own side, the Stars decided to line up with the Golden Knights to stand together as a hockey family during the moment of silence and the national anthem.

We stand with you Vegas. #VegasStrong

It’s nice to see the two sides come together like this before the game and it was a very classy move by the Dallas Stars organization.
