Over the weekend, the Montreal Canadiens lost one of the best forwards last season in free agency, but people shouldn’t forget that they gained an exciting new talent already this offseason.

Jonathan Drouin was acquired via trade by the team earlier in June and his talent-level is near the top of the league. Now, he’s chosen a new number for the first time in his hockey career. Drouin wore number 27 with the Lightning and Mooseheads, but in Montreal he has chosen number 92.

Enfin dévoilé, mon numéro sera le 92/ I will be wearing number 92 @canadiensmtl

This number was worn last season by a different Canadien, Steve Ott. Ott’s stint in Montreal was a short-lived one, as he was traded there at the Trade Deadline and quickly decided to retire this offseason and has joined the St. Louis Blues as an assistant coach.

He didn’t have much success scoring in Montreal, which is why he thinks Drouins number was the perfect choice.

Steve Ott is actually the only Montreal Canadien to ever wear the number, so there has never been a goal scored wearing it. There should definitely be lots of goals left in that sweater.
