It’s gone too far. The Penguins dominance of the Washington Capitals has reached a point where everyone just feels sorry for the Capitals.

They have been such a good team for so long that it just feels like they’ve gotten unlucky over the years, especially with the ways they’ve lost. The hockey community is well aware of what a hot goaltender can do in the playoffs and it seems like the Captials hit one of those brick walls every year.

It all started way back in 2010 when the Caps got absolutely shut down by Jaroslav Halak when he was still on the Montreal Canadiens, but it hasn’t stopped since then. Below are the combined stats of the goaltending performances put up by the Capitals opponent that eliminated them in every year since 2010.

It is a total of 45 games and the opposition put up a save percentage that would be equivalent to the sixth best season of all time.

*Stats include all goalies who played, with most dominant goalie listed

Just incase you missed it here’s that goalie’s stats:

GP: 45

Sv%: .934

GAA: 2.22

Averaging what would likely be a hall of fame goaltender as your opposition for every year in the playoffs is a surefire way to make it look like you choke every year.

Poor, poor Washington Capitals.
