It's been nearly three decades since the Edmonton Oilers won a Stanley Cup, but they can change that this year.

The Oilers ended their playoff drought earlier this week after clinching a berth for the first time since the 2005-06 season.

While Edmonton isn't exactly the 'City of Champions' at the moment, they have the core to potentially change that bring memories of the 1980s back to fans.

From 1984 to 1990, the Oilers won five Stanley Cups with 'The Great One,' Wayne Gretzky, leading the way for four of them.

Just days after the Oilers clinched a playoff spot, Gretzky returned to Edmonton with his sons and they took an epic picture in front of his statue.

This just confirms that the excitement for playoff hockey in Edmonton is at an all-time high.

We imagine Gretzky could be in Edmonton more throughout the postseason, especially if they make a deep run like they did the last time they made the playoffs in 2006.
