For the past few seasons the Carolina Hurricanes have ranked near the very bottom in attendance in the NHL. Tuesday night, the with the Hurricanes playing host to the Columbus Blue Jackets, the in-arena announcer listed the final attendance numbers on the night. It wasn't pretty...

As Senior TSN hockey reporter Frank Seravalli tweeted out on Wednesday, this is the lowest attendance for a game that wasn't snowed out since 2001. And to make matters worse, it's only the Hurricanes second home game of the season.

According to ESPN, the Hurricanes averaged 11,776 fans at their home games last season, and only 12, 203 fans the season before it. Just to contextualize how low of a number that is, the Coyotes, the team that ranked second to last in attendance in 2016, averaged 13,094 fans.

Carolina lost 2-1 in OT on Tuesday, and curently stand at 1-0-1 on the season.
