Canadian music legend Gord Downie passed away last night after being diagnosed with terminal brain cancer early last year.

Downie has had a profound impact on the sports world, especially in the Canadian landscape. We’ve written about how his work intertwined with hockey and Bob McKenzie shared some personal connections he’s felt, but this type of news has garnered a reaction out many more people in the sports world.

Our friend G will be so missed, but he left us with so much. ✌️

As you can see, the hockey community is especially emotional about the loss of the legendary musician, partly because hockey is so Canadian. Downie also had a special connection to the Boston Bruins and the sport of hockey in general. He even shared a friendship with one of hockey's biggest personalities, Bob McKenzie, who has wrote several articles about him in the past.
