Remember when the Arizona Coyotes made the playoffs three seasons in a row from 2009-10 to 2011-12 and things seemed like they were finally starting to turn around?

In fact, we should point about before going any further that the team was still named the "Phoenix Coyotes" during that three-season stretch of postseason runs.

Back to the point, things went from incredible to awful in an instant as the Coyotes went from making the playoffs during the 2011-12 season to missing the postseason five consecutive years.

The Coyotes are trying desperately to change their fortunes and earlier this week, they made a big change to their roster.

The changes continued late Thursday night as the team parted ways with long time head coach Dave Tippett.

Tippett led the Coyotes to the playoffs in each of his first three seasons, but his team has struggled mightily ever since.

That said, the decision by the Coyotes was still a surprise, especially considering the timing as the first round of the NHL Draft is Friday night and Arizona has the 7th pick.

The state of the Coyotes franchise right now probably doesn't make fans very confident and this tweet truly displaying the state of the franchise won't make things better.

Clearly the Coyotes have a lot of needs to fill, but the fact that most are off the ice and likely will be filled very soon should make fans a little more optimistic.

Until the product on the ice gets better, though, expectations won't be high.  Luckily this weekend is the perfect opportunity to add some talent through the draft.
