Auctions are a fairly mysterious procedure, especially when doing them online. You get lined up against anybody who has an internet connection and the bids can shoot up faster than anybody expected them to.

There weren’t many bids on this peculiar item, but it wasn’t the number of bids that really blew us away, it was what NHL.com calls the “Winning Bid”. We have reasons to be skeptical about the price that this is listed for (For reasons we’ll  explained below), but at the moment, this is the item that is listed as going for the highest price in recent closures on NHL.com (Click here to see the item on their page).

So, it’s the Canucks lineup cards from the game that Bo Horvat scored his 20th goal for the first time. No offence to Bo, but it doesn’t seem like a $100,000 item. These are the reasons we’re skeptical.

  1. There is a Golden Knights logo on the image
  2. It only says 0 bids, but several of the item’s listed as selling have that same terminology
  3. Unless Bo Horvat paid extra for himself we can’t see any conceivable reason for this to sell for $100,000
  4. The auction was only up for a single day

With all of that said, we’re hoping that there is something that we’re missing with this and it really did sell for this much money, because it will have to be a pretty fascinating reason.

Last year we were surprised to see Auston Matthews’ Centennial Classic jersey sell for over $10,000, so this would be pretty shocking.
