The Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs exited the NHL playoffs at basically the exact same time this season, but in recent history, the Habs have significantly more success.

That’s something that many Habs fans will never let Leafs fans forget, and this year is a special year for them to point it out.

That’s because now that the Leafs have been eliminated from Stanley Cup contention, their championship drought has officially reached 50 years. It was 1967 the last time that the Leafs won the Cup, and this Habs fan had a special way of celebrating that.

Reddit user and Canadiens fan HockeyLocked got a cake for his uncle, a Leafs fan.

So in honour of the Leafs not winning the cup for the 50th year in a row, I called up a bakery in Toronto and had them make this cake for my uncle (a die hard Leafs fan) from hockey

Leafs fan or not, it’s great to see more Canadian teams in the playoffs.

Playful ribbing like this is part of what makes hockey great and it’s not the most fun when the rivalries aren’t competitive. It’s been kind of one-sided for Habs fan as of late and they have developed more of a rivalry with the Bruins than the Leafs.

It will be interesting to see how the rivalries develop as Canadian teams have more success. There are still two Canadian teams left in the NHL playoffs and it’s entirely possible they meet in the Stanley Cup final. Make sure to contact your bakers everyone, you may be needing a lot of cakes in the future.
