Monday night, the Leafs and Bruins battled in what many viewed as a must-win game for Toronto if they wanted a real shot at finishing in third in the Atlantic.

The Leafs outscored Boston 3-1 in the third period to take the game by a score of 4-2 and move one point back of the Bruins for third in the division with one game in hand.

The win gave the Leafs the season sweep of the Bruins and it gave fans these three insane stats to ponder.

Rare Sweep

The only other season the Leafs had swept a season series with the Bruins (minimum four games played) was in Boston's inaugural season in 1924.

The Leafs were the Toronto St. Patricks back then, and they outscored the Bruins 32-11 over the six wins that season.

4-1's Not So Bad After All

No Leafs fan will ever forget the lockout-shortened season in which they went to the playoffs, had a 4-1 lead against the Bruins in the third period of Game 7 in the first round and blew it.

'4-1' this season against the Bruins, though, has been friendly as Toronto had a 4-1 lead at some point in every game this season against Boston and they won every game.

The closest the Leafs came to blowing a 4-1 lead against the Bruins this season was on February 4th, a 6-5 win.
