You know things have gotten really out of hand in a game when a goalie fight breaks out.

Saturday, the Syracuse Crunch traveled to Connecticut to take on the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in an AHL tilt that saw both teams receive over 140 minutes in penalties by the time the final whistle was blown. The second period in particular got quite ugly. So ugly that the two goalies decided that they too needed to drop their glove and blocker to take part in an old fashioned goalie tilly.

Goalie fights don't always live up to the billing, including this one which featured mostly grappling. But still there's something very gladiator like when two tenders leave their crease to skate to the centre of the ice for a showdown.

You just know that as soon as the two approached one another every fan in the building get far more excited about the prospects of a goalie fight than they should have.
