Everyone’s favourite play in football is the trick play. Whether it’s the hook and ladder, the fumble Rooski, or just an old fashioned direct snap, the trick play always sparks a sudden spike in interest and surprise.

On Saturday, the USC Trojans perfectly pulled off the decoy punt returner trick play. While the play has been run in recent years by Oregon, the Chicago Bears, and the (then) St. Louis Rams, it is impressive nonetheless that USC was able to basically get to the endzone untouched.

There is a good chance that teams will start coming up with a way to guard against this in the near future. It is becoming too easy to pull off an easy six.
