Matt Duchene’s departure from the Colorado avalanche was a bizarre one.

Earlier, we saw as he snuck off the ice when Blake Comeau was also leaving due to an injury. Then, he was apparently immediately put on a flight and sent out of Colorado. This is probably due to the fact that the Senators are now on their way to Sweden – where they’ll face the Avalanche in back-to-back games.

So, he was on his way out of Colorado as fast as possible. The game was still going on and he had his suitcase and street clothes on in a hurry.

#MattDuchene was already on his way to catch a flight while the Avs were still on the ice.

Everything about this trade is kind of bizarre. Here are the full details:

To Ottawa: C Matt Duchene

To Nashville: C Kyle Turris

To Colorado: OTT 1st-round pick, OTT 3rd-round pick, C Shane Bowers, G Andrew Hammond (from Ottawa); NSH 2nd-round pick, D Samuel Girard, LW Vladislav Kamenev (from Nashville).

Three-team trades are extremely rare in the NHL, he was traded mid-game, he’ll be playing against his former team immediately in back-to-back games and this trade appeared to die early this week. The hockey world is still trying to make sense of it.

Either way, Duchene is probably happy to get all of this nonsense over with.
