The NHL Draft is on tonight and while there has been a lot of trades going down before the time comes, what will happen in the draft is still up in the air.

We now know that the Rangers will choose 7th instead of the Coyotes, but it’s up top that most people have questions. The debate still rages on between Nico Hischier and Nolan Patrick for the number one overall pick, with the other likely to get scooped up next.

They are projected to be two of the most prolific players from this draft class and would be good bets to be on a 3-on-3 team in the future if there was ever a battle of the draft class.

Obviously we don’t yet know what a 3-on-3 team from this class would look like, but we do for the past couple years.

Which #NHLDraft class would win in a 3-on-3 tournament? '13, '14, '15, or '16? 🤔

There are a lot of variables at play, like if you would choose three forwards, two forwards and a defencemen or even one forward two defencemen, and there are some different names you could add in there as well.

Here are some of the top names from the last decade.

2016: Matthews, Laine, Tkachuk, Chychrun, Puljujarvi, Clayton Keller
2015: McDavid, Eichel, Werenski, Marner, Hanifin, Provorov, Dylan Strome
2014: Draisaitl, Nylander, Eklbad, Ehlers, Pastrnak, Larkin, Honka
2013: MacKinnon, Barkov, Drouin, Jones, Monahan, Ristolainen, Domi
2012: Forsberg, Galchenyuk, Lindholm, Trouba, Dumba, Rielly, Hertl
2011: Nugent-Hopkins, Scheifele, Hamilton, Larsson, Klefbom, Couturier, Huberdeau
2010: Hall, Seguin, Tarasenko, Fowler, Faulk, Johansen, Skinner
2009: Tavares, Hedman, Ekman-Larsson, Duchene, Hoffman, E. Kane
2008: Stamkos, Doughty, Karlsson, Pietrangelo, Eberle, Gardiner, Josi
2007: P. Kane, Voracek, Benn, Subban, Pacioretty, Shattenkirk, McDonagh

There is some ridiculous potential for 3-on-3 teams throughout that group.

If you’re willing to go with three forwards, it’s hard to turn down that Hall, Seguin and Tarasenko team in 2010. It’s the same way for the one forward and two defencemen format, because 2008 runs Stamkos Doughty and Karlsson out there. That mine as well be three forwards with the numbers they put up. If you’re going with the standard two forwards and one defenceman, we’d have to go with either 2015 or 2007.

Ultimately, with likely the best player of the next generation in Connor McDavid in the 2015 season, we’re going with that McDavid, Eichel and Werenski. That’s could be a 3-on-3 dynasty for years.
