This past Saturday night, the Toronto Maple Leafs clinched a playoff berth for the first time since the 2012-13 season, and will be playing the Washington Capitals in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. While Leafs fans are pretty excited to see some playoff hockey in Toronto again, the reality starts to sink in that, well, they live in Toronto, one of the most expensive sports cities in the world. And as mentioned above, it doesn't help the team hasn't seen consistent playoff hockey in quite some time.

The night the Leafs clinched, we showed people just how high the tickets were starting at on StubHub, and the prices were astronomical. Let's quickly compare the ticket price between Game 1 and Game 2 in Washington, and Game 3 and Game 4 in Toronto.

The difference is so significant, Mary Clarke from SB Nation decided she would investigate on the trivago Website to see whether it would be a wiser investment for Leafs fans to plan a full trip to D.C. than to go to a playoff game in their own backyard.

According to the math done on Room 5, Maple Leafs' faithful would technically be saving money taking a road trip to the opposition arena for a game than going to one at the Air Canada Centre (before the taxi to the Verizon Center from the hotel and dinner).

Pack as many friends into the station wagon as possible, and the price only decreases.

Get the squad together, Leafs fans, it's time for a road trip!
