When you picture Brady Tkachuk (or Matthew Tkachuk for that matter), there’s a good chance you picture him with his mouthguard hanging out on his mouth. It’s become somewhat of a signature look, joining his brother, James van Riemsdyk, Steph Curry, and others as famous mouthguard chewers.

On Monday, former NHLer and Brady’s father Keith joined The Athletic Hockey Show podcast to discuss the habit.

Keith explains that the two may have picked it up from watching Patrick Kane. He also explains that his wife, Chantal, doesn’t like the habit. Finally, he reveals that the two brothers haven’t had to get any serious dental work done so far, but that it may change.

Sure enough…

The chipped jib was the result of a high-stick from Montreal Canadiens defenceman Shea Weber. It had nothing to do with his fight vs. Ben Chairot, and oh, he also scored two goals as of the halfway point of the 3rd period.

Brady Tkachuk is a certified Hockey Guy.
