Recently we shared five crazy rules that used to exist in the NHL. Some of them were pretty horrendous, but it also got us thinking... it would be kind of cool if a few of them came back! Just imagine the league with some of the old school rules... for one game. Only one game, that's all we're asking for!

So, let's take a look back at five old ones that we would love to see in just one contest.

NO OFFSIDES

The red line and offsides were introduced in the 1943-44 NHL season, but let's just pretend that it wasn't for a moment. Imagine NHL players wondering around in the offensive zone for an entire game, hovering just outside of the goaltender's crease. It would completely change a coach's strategy and would be chaotic. Would be pretty cool to see for 60 minutes, though!

NO FORWARD PASSING

Forward passing wasn't allowed once upon a time, but that all changed in 1929. Just once, we'd like to see what this would look like in today's NHL. What would happen on a forward pass? A penalty? And what would a power-play even look like? So many questions.

A SEVENTH PLAYER?!

Seven players on the ice? seriously?! Before the 1911-12 season, there was a seventh player on the ice for each team who acted as a rover. It would be crowded but who knows, maybe it would lead to more goals? There would be more hits, that's for sure.

NO ICING

Once upon a time, players could simply wire the puck down the ice without having to worry about a faceoff taking place after in their own zone. That all changed, however, when the league implemented icing for the 1937-38 season. This one might not be popular with everyone, but it would certainly help game flow.

TWO GOALTENDERS?

As noted by records.nhl.com, there was technically not a rule in place that forbid teams from using two goalies at once. A formal one was put in place in the 1931-32 season, but... we would love to see this come to life for just one game. How would anyone score?!

So, these are just some of the rules we'd like to see come back. What are you most interested in seeing make a return?
