Do you think you love video games? Maybe you do, but now like this. A retro copy of Super Mario Bros. was sold for $100,150, becoming the highest priced video game ever and blowing away the previous record of $30,000, also from another copy of Super Mario Bros.

Like anything else, there is a market for vintage collectibles in the gaming community, and as the game that started it all for the iconic Mario franchise. Whether you like a game of Mario Kart with some buddies, or perhaps Super Smash Bros., or even the classic side-scrolling Super Mario games, it all started with this one here.

Why did somebody pay this much for the game? Well, this copy is from a test-market run of the game, before the original NES console had even hit stores nationally, and it’s still sealed with a sticker that was only ever used for this test-market run. Also, come on, it’s Mario!

Well, retro video games still have a ways to go if they want to hit the big time of collectible trading â€” there’s nothing like the fever pitch of vintage baseball trading cards, which can sell for prices in the millions. Last year, a 1952 Mickey Mantle Topps card sold for $2.88 million, the second highest price ever paid for a baseball card.
