Alex Ovechkin is bringing an entirely new meaning to "The Great 8" this season.

Entering Friday's game against the Hurricanes, the Capitals' sniper was coming off a hat-trick performance in the team's 6-2 victory over the Red Wings on Tuesday night while riding a 12-game point streak.

Ovechkin not only extended his point streak to 13 games, he added another hatty, bringing his goal total up to 28 on the season in 31 games.

So, what is Ovi now on pace for goals this season? A cool 74.

During those stretch of six goals, he notched them on just nine shots. To go even further, he's now notched a goal in five straight.

It's only a matter of time before he leapfrogs Dave Andreychuck for 14th overall, needing just six more to do so to reach 641.

The all-time leaders in goals all-time is, of course, Wayne Gretzky at 894. Can Ovechkin pot another 260 to move into first place? It's not out of the question, and if the 33-year-old is able to score at a similar rate of his career goals per game at .614, Ovechkin could one day sit in sole possession of that record.
