It’s official, Alex Ovechkin has the most power-play goals in NHL history. He scored number 275 last night against the Detroit Red Wings, and it was just as you imagined. How else could he set the record than with a classic Ovi one-timer. He’s now one goal ahead of Dave Andreychuk and still has a bunch of time to extend that lead.

Obviously setting the record for most power-play goals in NHL history is a big deal, but last night Ovi moved even closer to a few other records. That power-play goal also ended up being the game winner, and the 119th game-winning goal of his career. He’s now third in NHL history in that category behind a couple of absolute legends.

For those of you who have been keeping an eye on Ovi’s quest for most goals in NHL history, he also scored an empty netter last night. He now sits at 754 goals, 140 behind Wayne Gretzky.

Most PPGs in NHL history is a massive feat so of course he got congratulations from a couple of teammates over social media. Nicklas Backstrom says it best. “#hesgotothergoalsinmind”
