Dougie Hamilton grew up in Toronto playing the sport of hockey, and like many young Torontonians, he bled blue and white.

The current Calgary Flame has seen his name thrown in the rumor mill multiple times over the years, eventually leading to a trade out of Boston to Cowtown.

The Leafs reportedly showed interest on the Toronto native, and had he actually been traded to Toronto, it wouldn’t have been his first time throwing on a Leafs jersey. Just have a look at this promotional video he released on his Instagram featuring a young little Dougie wearing a white jersey pumping his hands into the air. We're not sure when it was released or made, but it's pretty funny to see how pumped Hamilton is.

Hamilton was selected by the Boston Bruins 9th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft with a pick that the Maple Leafs actually sent to Boston in the Phil Kessel trade. Yes Leafs fans, you could’ve conceivably drafted Tyler Seguin and Hamilton in the same draft instead of having Phil the Thril.

It would’ve undoubtedly been a dream come true had Hamilton been selected by his hometown club. The 6’6’ defenceman would've fit perfectly into the Leafs d-core, and would surely help mitigate the Leafs defensive zone struggles with his physicality and mobility.

The 24-year-old is signed through the 2020-21 season with a cap hit of $ 5,750,000. On Saturday night, Hamilton recorded a hat trick in his 400th career NHL game scoring all of Calgary’s goals in a 6-3 loss to the Panthers. He became the first defenceman to tally a hat trick since Al MacInnis registered one in March, 1992, 15 months before Hamilton was even born.

In 59 games with the Flames this season, the younger brother of Freddie leads all Flames defencemen in scoring with 13 goals and 21 assists in 59 games. His 13 goals on the season matches a career high he set last year. Hamilton has improved his goal totals every season in the NHL going from 5 to 7, then 10, 12, and 13.
