When you think of backhands in the NHL you often think of Sidney Crosby, Pavel Datsyuk or even Patrick Kane, but you should probably add another name to that list.

Travis Yost wrote an article on TSN.ca breaking down some of the most prolific goal scorers across the NHL put the biscuit in the basket. Some guys prefer clappers, others the snapper and many use a good old fashioned wrist shot. When you get to the backhand, you see that one player seemed to really separate from the pack in terms of usage and conversion.

Considering those crazy shooting percentages, it seems likely that the reason for all the goals he’s putting in on the backhand is that he prefers to go to the backhand when in close or on breakaways. Either way, it’s clear that Marchand has the most underrated backhand in the league.
