Preseason hockey often gets shrugged off as meaningless. Basically just a tune up to get the players warm for the actual, meaningful hockey, right?

Don’t tell the players that, because in one of the final preseason games between Carolina and Nashville, things got pretty heated. Right at the centre of it all was Predators defenceman P.K. Subban.

Subban, who doesn’t shy away from a little rustle n’ tussle, got penalized three times on Sunday. The most notable one is when he and Michael Ferland received matching slashing penalties near the start of the 3rd period.

Upset with a hit on Teuvo Teravainen, Ferland confronted Subban. As you can see in the following videos, Subban wasn’t happy about that at all.

Yeah, preseason is a time for players to get ready for the season, but it’s also a time for rivalries to ignite or renew.

You can bet both Subban and Ferland have January 13th circled on their calendars.
