In what may have been the most highly anticipated college basketball game of the season, Wednesdayβs rivalry game between Duke and North Carolina was quickly deflated by an injury scare to Zion Williamson.
Improbably, the Blue Devils star ripped through his shoe while trying to plant, falling to the ground and quickly grabbing for his knee. While he was able to limp off under his own strength, Zion was ruled out for the remainder of the game. The severity of the injury is not yet known.
The basketball world was quick to show love for one of its rising stars. Some NBA players encouraged Zion to protect his financial future in the NBA and sit out of Duke games, while others pointed out that he's going to need some sturdier footwear at the next level.
