Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton has never played for the Buffalo Bills, nor did he play in a neighbouring area in college, nor was he born anywhere near Buffalo.

Yet, Dalton is strangely loved by Bills fans, and when he took the field for Sunday’s preseason game against Buffalo, he was met with a standing ovation from the opposing crowd.

There is, of course, a history to this relationship, and it traces back to the end of the 2017 season when Dalton threw a dramatic, final-minute touchdown pass to knock the Baltimore Ravens out of the playoffs in Week 17 — securing the Bills’ first playoff berth since 1999.

It’s the rare wholesome story between a fanbase and an enemy player, but Dalton would get the last laugh over the fans in attendance as the Bengals smoked their team in a 26-13 win — highlighted by some absolutely filthy jukes for a touchdown by John Ross.
