The St. Louis Cardinals hit the road on Thursday to kick off a lengthy road trip in San Diego on Friday night, but they made sure to do something special before they left town for nearly two weeks.

On Wednesday night the Cardinals got the crowd riled up early as Ryan O’Reilly, Pat Maroon, Alex Pietrangelo and the Stanley Cup were all in attendance.

The players were welcomed with a loud standing ovation as they made their way onto the field and it was followed up with Conn Smythe winner Ryan O’Reilly throwing out the ceremonial first pitch.

Before the game the guys made their way into the clubhouse where they took photos with the Cardinals players and even tried their luck in the batting cages.

Unfortunately for the home crowd that was the only cheering they got to do on Wednesday as the Cardinals were blanked, 2-0, by the Oakland Athletics.
