Roy Halladay’s election to the Baseball Hall of Fame on Tuesday perfectly encapsulates the meaning of “bittersweet”. On one hand, we love to celebrate the life of Halladay, and how dominant he was as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays (12 seasons) and Philadelphia Phillies (4 season). On the other hand, we miss him.

Halladay’s posthumous nomination for induction comes alongside the inductions of Edgar Martinez, Mike Mussina, and Mariano Rivera.

Following the emotional induction, the day got a little more tear-jerking when Halladay’s widow, Brandy, released a statement regarding the honour:

Needless to say, it is a sadness we have to feel, and an appreciation we want to feel. Doc will forever be remembered as one of the most focused pitchers to ever take the mound, and now his name is etched in stone.

Rest in peace, Doc. We miss you.
