At this point, fans and players are having a difficult time gauging what qualifies as a goaltender interference penalty. You hate to see a goaltender get run over but when a player is pushed into him, how is it avoidable?

Well, it’s not, and Lightning superstar Brayden Point found himself on the wrong side of a call that ultimately led to a Brock Nelson Islanders goal after being deliberately pushed by defenceman Adam Pelech into Semyon Varlamov. But despite the result, the 25-year-old responded with class and acknowledged that the referee was put in a tough place.

Here’s what he had to say after the game:

Had the Lightning lost in a one-goal game, perhaps his response would have been a little different, but TBay ultimately closed things out with a 4-2 victory. Point scored the game’s first goal (and fifth in five games) so despite the goal, the Calgary native had himself quite the night. With the win, the series is now tied at ones heading into Game 3 at Nassau Coliseum.

These calls happen but it’s clear the refs got this one wrong. Varly was able to return to the game and that’s really all that matters.
