It’s always kind of an awkward  when an athlete decides to switch their number. As fans, we’re happy that he/she is going with the one they feel more comfortable in. On the other hand… the change means an expensive trip to a jersey store to sew on the new number. Well, Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander is making the whole process at least a bit easier by agreeing to pay for anyone’s changes at Real Sports Bar and Grill.

And apparently the kind gesture is sitting pretty well with his boss Brendan Shanahan.

After the Swede made his promise via Twitter, Shanahan responded with great tweet of his own. Apparently his son Jake is quite the Nylander fan...

Fans were loving it in the thread:

The 50-year-old shouldn't have had too much trouble paying for the switch anyway… Per CapFriendly, Shanahan’s NHL career earnings amounted to $62,385,000 and he just signed a six-year extension with the Maple Leafs this past May. But hey, who doesn’t like to save the odd buck(s)?!

What do you think of #Nylander ‘s new number? 🤔

Let’s just hope Jake is a fan of the number change because that would just be unfortunate if he wasn’t.
