For the first time in the history of the World Juniors the Canadians will not be taking home a medal on their home ice.

Team Canada was less than a minute away from advancing to the semifinals until it all came crumbling down as Finland tied things up to force overtime. After getting denied on a penalty shot and having a stick break at the worst possible time, the Finns ended up stealing a victory on Canadian soil to clinch a spot in the semifinals against Switzerland. Considering the Canadians are considered a lock for a gold or silver medal every single year, you can bet fans were completely devastated right across the nation.

Canada would have played Switzerland with a trip to the gold medal game on the line but now we’ll see Finland and Switzerland square off in the next round at the World Juniors.
