Georges St. Pierre has called it quits.

The 37-year-old ends his pro MMA career as one of the most decorated fighters in its history, amassing a 21-2 UFC record, 13 title fight wins (most in history), and 12 wins by decisions (also a UFC record). He took Thursday to recognize those who helped and inspired him on his journey, but last night it was the fighter who was recognized by 20,000+ at Montreal’s Bell Centre.

Ahead of the Habs vs. Flyers game, the Canadiens honoured the Montreal native ahead of puck drop and the arena sounded like it was about to break down. Fans from every section simultaneously yelled his initials and it made for a truly remarkable moment.

What an absolute beauty.

Let’s stay on the topic of hockey, shall we? GSP clearly has an admiration for the sport because he gave a special shout out to Wayne Gretzky during his retirement presser. The Great one, he confessed, was one of his greatest role models throughout his athletic career.

Real recognize real 🐐

Real recognize real.

The Canadiens were clearly amped after the pre-game because they went on to smack the streaky Flyers 5-1 in front of the home crowd. Not a bad way to send GSP off into retirement!

We’re sure Georges will be making his way to many more Habs games in the future.
