We’re at the point now where there are players in the NHL who weren’t even born yet when Zdeno Chara made his NHL debut with the New York Islanders on November 19, 1997, but the 1996 draft pick is still kicking it with the best of them at the age of 42.
On Tuesday night the Boston Bruins were in Montreal for a battle with the Canadiens and it happened to be Chara’s 1,500th career NHL game.
Although the Habs and the Bruins have a storied rivalry, the home fans showed respect where respect is due during a break in the action and saluted Chara on his impressive accomplishment with a standing ovation.
Canadiens captain Shea Weber also put together a classy message for Chara as he congratulated the 6-foot-7 defenceman on his recent feat and for being a great example for the rest of the players in the league, young and old.
It’s awesome to see the fans put the rivalry aside for a quick minute to show respect where respect is due.
