The Houston Astros are in hot water as likely the most extensive sign stealing investigation to ever hit the MLB continues. While sign stealing is something that happened, and has been accused of happening, for a long time in the game, the Astros case is a little more extreme. Not only does it involve World Series stakes, but it also involves the use of technology.

They allegedly weren’t just having a runner on 2nd base glance in a certain direction to tip pitches, they had a camera in centre field set up to communicate the pitches. Part of the reason why this investigation is so damning is because they have a former player, Mike Fiers, vouching against them and explaining the tipping process.

Fiers explained that the camera would relay signs to the dugout, who would then loudly bang on a trashcan to let the batter know what the sign was. On replays of the gameplay, you can hear audible bangs after the catcher has flashed the sign, seemingly confirming the misdeeds.

When asked about Fiers’ allegations, current Houston Astros star Carlos Correa gave the ultimate former-teammate guilt trip.

Oof.

A lot of fans are calling out Correa for admitting guilt in a reading-between-the-lines sort of situation. That’s not for us to decide, as he could just be a hurt teammate as well, but there’s no doubt it would sting a little to see that comment if you’re Fiers.

Or maybe not. After all, he was left off the World Series roster.
