With two goalies suiting up for each game, it’s not very often teams get backed into a corner when it comes to filling the crease. Starter gets injured, put in the backup, call up the third-string for the next game. Every once in a while, teams experience a stroke of bad luck that leaves them with the undesirable option of an emergency backup goalie.

On Thursday, that’s exactly where the Chicago Blackhawks found themselves. With Corey Crawford lost early in the season, backup goaltender Anton Forsberg has been starting in his place. When he got injured playing soccer ahead of Thursday’s game, back up Collin Delia made his NHL debut. It didn’t go so well, and he was injured in the third period.

You know what that means? That’s right. EMERGENCY BACK UP TIME!

Scott Foster, a 36-year old former goaltender for Western Michigan found himself starring down Patrik Laine and the Winnipeg Jets. While that must have been intimidating, he stopped seven of seven shots and managed to maintain Chicago’s 6-2 lead.

He made saves on Jets’ stars Patrik Laine, Dustin Byfuglien, and Paul Statsny on his way to a perfect NHL debut.
