The late, great Roy Halladay was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on Sunday afternoon during a particularly emotional ceremony. His widow, Brandy, took the podium with a tearful speech on his behalf, thanking the Blue Jays as well as the Phillies for their support.

Accompanying each player’s induction was a tribute video from a former teammate, and for Halladay, that teammate was Chris Carpenter. The two were teammates on the Jays from 1998, Doc’s rookie year, until Carpenter’s departure in 2002, and became close friends over that time.

Carpenter had much to say about his old buddy. Get the tissues ready, if you want to take a trip down memory lane!

Like Carpenter says, Halladay wasn’t just a Hall of Fame pitcher, but “a Hall of Fame man.” He’s one for the ages.

Per his family’s request, Halladay was inducted without a plaque logo on his — highly unusual, but not unprecedented. Brandy addressed this on the podium, saying that this would be Roy’s decision as well if he were to make it.
