19-year-old Claire Eccles has made history after signing her latest contract.

The Surrey, British Columbia native recently signed a deal to join the Victoria HarbourCats of the West Coast League and will become the first woman to ever play in the league.

Eccles was a member of Team Canada at the 2016 Women’s Baseball World Cup in South Korea last September, and threw a complete game in her one start.

It’s unknown at the moment whether the team will use her in the rotation or out of the bullpen down the stretch, but it doesn’t matter because it’s still a very big moment in sports history.

Known as a knuckleballer, Eccles received a tweet from one of the best knuckleball pitchers to ever appear in a MLB uniform.

The HarbourCats’ season gets underway at the end of the month and Eccles will have a spot on the roster.
