A couple of seasons ago, New Jersey Devils goaltender Cory Schneider was considered by some to be in the upper elechon of NHL goaltenders.

Now eight games into the 2018-19 campaign, the 32-year-old netminder in mired in one of the worst slumps any goaltender could ever experience.

Sunday night's 6-5 shootout loss to the Anaheim Ducks illustrated the horrendous luck the Devils goaltender has gone through, as his teammates scored not one, not two, but THREE goals against him.

The last time Schneider won a regular season game where he started in net? December 27th, 2017.

A groin and hip injury sidelined the former Vancouver Canuck for 16 games following that late December win. He came back on March 1st, but struggled to regain his starting job after Keith Kinkaid propelled the Devils into the playoffs with his stellar play.

Schneider dropped his next four decisions before getting the nod in the playoffs against the Tampa Bay Lightning in Round 1. He did grab a victory, but if you count only regular season games, he's nearing a full calendar year since his last one.

He missed the first nine games of the 2018/19 season after off-season surgery was needed to repair torn cartilage in his left hip. He's lost has lost all of his five starts so far, going 0-5-1 with a 4.29 goals-against average and a .862 save percentage.
