Monday’s night game was one the Chicago Cubs would like to forget about as soon as possible.

The Cubs found themselves out of the game almost immediately as the Arizona Diamondbacks scored five runs in the opening inning and scored a combined six runs over the first two innings. Since it was just one of those nights for the Cubs, it meant a position player got a chance to take the mound. That player was first baseman Anthony Rizzo.

With the D-Backs leading by six in the top of the ninth inning and with just one out left to go, the Cubs decided to send their slugger to the mound to get the final out and he did just that.

Rizzo wasn’t the only Cubs’ position player who took to the mound on Monday night as catcher Victor Carantini also found himself on the mound at one point in the night.
