As much as we love the sports world, it isn't perfect and things like dirty plays still tend to happen no matter what rules are put in place to better protect players.

In this Division III basketball game between Nichols College and Fitchburg State, for example, Fitchburg State's Kewan Platt elbowed an opponent, Nate Tenaglia, in the face after he shot a 3.

Platt was suspended indefinitely and banned from campus for that elbow.  For those that didn't watch the game, apparently Platt was upset about a non-call on the other end of the floor before throwing the elbow.

That obviously doesn't excuse his actions, but it's important to note what happened in the game.

It's also important to note, as per ESPN, what Fitchburg State athletic director Matthew Burke had to say about the incident:

"The Fitchburg State community is appalled by the conduct displayed during Tuesday night's home basketball game.  The player involved has been indefinitely suspended from the team and barred from campus, effective immediately.

Most importantly, though, is that Tenaglia was ok and was able to finish the game after tests for a concussion were negative.
