The Ottawa Senators have quickly shifted from being one of the teams that you would least want to be a fan of, to a team that… actually seems kind of fun to cheer for!

The Sens may not have title dreams this season, but a talented young core is certainly something Ottawa fans can get excited around. On top of that, the Sens seem to have a lot of fun on and off the ice despite their lower spot in the standings. For a rebuilding team, this is a great mindset both now and in the future when hockey feels a bit more meaningful to the team.

One of the latest trends to take over the Sens fan base is the Sens Sickos. Technically the Sens Sickos movement began early on in 2020, but it’s gained a lot of steam over the past couple weeks.

Sens fans started using the ‘Sickos’ character in the window to represent moments when Sens fans found pleasure in other’s pain. The firing of Claude Julien was one recent flare up, while the Sens victory over the Leafs created another opportunity for the meme to spread.

Now, you can even submit cardboard cutouts in the Sickos style to go alongside the cartoon cutouts located behind the bench.

So how does D.J. Smith feel about a bunch of Sickos breathing down his neck as he tries to coach? He couldn’t be happier.

“Yes! Ha Ha Ha. Yes!” – Our reaction to D.J. Smith playing along.
