Big Save Dave is taking Calgary by storm.
The Czech goaltender was not on many people’s minds as the 2018-19 season began, with many figuring NHL vet Mike Smith would have a stranglehold on the Calgary Flames’ starting job. Now past the halfway point in the season, Rittich has simply been the better goalie, earning him starter duties.
His stellar 2.49 GAA and .917 save percentage can attest to that. If he keeps it up, his name may start to enter some other conversations.
Miikka Kiprusoff and Mike Vernon are two goalies that Flames fans know well, and in honour of their accomplishments in the Flames crease Rittich included them in his beautiful new mask:
Focus on the present, and look ahead to the future. Saying that, it’s important to appreciate your past as well. Especially if it is etched onto such a sweet mask.
