The Kawhi Leonard era in Toronto, however long it may last, has already been a treat for Raptors fans, but it was also bittersweet to break up the DeMar DeRozan-Kyle Lowry backcourt. Even with DeRozan in San Antonio, however, the two remain as close as brothers.

On Monday, Lowry celebrates his 33rd birthday, and DeRozan took to Instagram to wish his “little brother” a happy birthday. His choice of photo? Brilliant, and he also ribs Lowry on getting up there in years.

For posterity, let’s review. Kyle Lowry: 33 years old. DeMar DeRozan: 29 years old. So who’s really the little brother here?

Even in his age-33 season, Lowry is averaging a career-high 9.0 assists, good for second in the league. Their starting point guard may be “damn near 40,” in DeRozan’s words, but Raptors fans need not fear. This guy is still balling.

When DeRozan made his emotional return to Toronto, it was Lowry who got the last laugh, double-teaming DeRozan with Kawhi in the game’s closing seconds to force a turnover for the game-winner — but even then, DeRozan still had jokes for his old buddy.
