Gear up Winnipeg, because it’s looking like a potential star-studded NFL preseason game is coming your way.

Jeff Hamilton of the Winnipeg Free Press reported on Friday that the Oakland Raiders and Green Bay Packers are ‘finalizing details’ to play their preseason game at IG Field this summer. The game is set to take place in the third week of August over the same weekend the Blue Bombers face the Edmonton Eskimos on the road.

The Raiders knew the game wasn’t going to be played in Oakland and were reportedly scrambling for a location. Green Bay was considered as a location as well, along with other cities in Canada. Bombers senior director of public and player relations Darren Cameron has this to say on the news:

The following is an excerpt from the Winnipeg Free Press:

“It’s looking good and we’re working towards that game but at this point there’s nothing more we can comment on.”

The news shouldn’t come as too much of a shock to Canadians. On March 26th, NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reported that the Raiders were mulling playing a preseason game in Canada, though the initial rumours had the game link to Saskatchewan. Sorry melonheads, but it’s looking like you’ll have to wait a little longer to get your taste of NFL action!
